An aspiring broadcast journalist, Vandana is a junior at Stony Brook University who plans on pursuing an MBA after graduation. Formerly on the pre-medical track, she left behind lab coats and stethoscopes in favor of a reporter’s notebook and pencil because given the choice between deciphering complex medical jargon or uncovering untold stories, she’d choose the latter any day. She seized the opportunity to go on the Journalism Without Walls trip to Bangalore for the chance to meet people living nearly 8,000 miles from her own home, whose paths she otherwise might never have crossed. What she gained was so much more: a sharpened axe for digging for the truth, brazenness for asking the tough questions and a fantastic team of seven peer journalists who provided more opportunities for learning and growth.
