Kevin Matyi

Kevin Massa2 copyKevin chose to go to India because he thought the trip would be a profound experience, one that would expand his view of the world. He was right.

Initially, he worked on two stories during his stay in Bangalore: one on the city’s bookstores and another on its horrendous traffic. Later, he reported on the Indian garment industry and made photo galleries about Cubbon Park, the Central Park of Bangalore, and the Nagarhole Tiger Reserve in western Karnataka state.

This was Kevin’s first time reporting outside the Stony Brook University campus. A junior, Kevin is entering his second year as a journalism student and as a staff member at the Stony Brook Independent, an online news organization, where he is one of two copy editors. In the past year, he wrote or contributed to more than 50 stories for the Indie.

He has made the Dean’s List in each of his four completed semesters at Stony Brook, and during the Fall 2014 semester, he received the Feingold Award as the top non-astronomy student in a class taught by Professor Frederick Walter, Search for Life in the Universe.

Kevin wants to write about video games, anime or science—or all three.
