Journalism Without Walls is a one-of-a-kind experience offered to journalism students at the Stony Brook University School of Journalism. It gives students the opportunity to report beyond the campus and meet people from completely different cultures to tell their stories.
This January, nine students along with two professors traveled to Havana, Cuba to report in a time of historical changes between the United States and Cuba. Before any American corporations or free travel between the two countries and while the embargo is still in place, the students got to experience a completely different world and then complete the task of putting together multimedia and written pieces from their trip.
The students spent a week interviewing Cuba’s diverse population on a variety of topics, everything from religion to the arts and Cuban media to international affairs.
This website showcases those stories, and aims to give its viewers a taste of the Cuban culture that the students now feel so attached to.
