In 2011, changes in state law permitted the brewing of beer in small batches to be consumed on the premises. Bangalore’s first brewpub, The Biere Club, opened that year. Four years later, the city has more than 20 brewpubs in operation with several more on the way. The brewpubs seem to be extremely trendy at the moment, and many brewers claim to be operating at full capacity, selling their beer as fast as they can brew it. Bangalore has quickly earned a reputation as the center of the brewpub movement in India.–Rick Ricioppo
